Africa

Posted by ifoundme on May 24, 2008

i have been a follower of Sanityfound’s writings in her blog and hearing the news about what’s been happening in her country and the neighboring countries as well makes a person like me feel anxious, saddened, dispirited. a different kind of apartheid is happening and however anyone describe, define or react about it, it just boil to one thing: nobody wins in that kind of situation.

my heart bled just looking at the pictures. i know that what i’ve been reading recently is not enough to understand what they are going through but even an uneducated person understands that looting and xenophobia are not solutions.

that goes the same to my friend’s home country also on the northern part of africa. sudan’s darfur is experiencing a lot too. i am quite thankful that he is not there now and has opted to stay in asia but i feel for those who are suffering now… the innocent ones who didn’t do anything but are just at the wrong place and at the wrong time.

i was once enthralled with world history and current events but for the past few years i neglected them. it was mainly because i was too caught up with my own world. honestly, my enthusiasm about it hasn’t really reached the maximum level because i disregarded africa to include in my numerous readings. (forgive my ignorance, Aud.) maybe it was because i grew up thinking that africa is full of HIV/AIDS, famine and chaos. it is only later on i had an inkling that it’s a beautiful continent. it is one of the many places i want to visit.

i’m sorry if this is the closest i can get to play as tribute. whenever i hear this song my mind is off to your continent dreaming what’s in there and what awaits me when the time comes i will be gifted to reach your place.

i’m praying for the violence to stop, clarity and sensible thinking for your leaders, love and hope to fill the broken spirit and peace of mind. here’s the prayer by charlotte church and josh groban for healing

I pray you’ll be our eyes
And watch us where we go
And help us to be wise
In times when we don’t know

Let this be our prayer
As we go our way
Lead us to a place
Guide us with your grace
To a place where we’ll be safe
La luce che to dai

I pray we’ll find your light
Nel cuore restero
And hold it in our hearts
A ricordarchi che
When stars go out each night
L’eterna stella sei
Nella mia preghiera
Let this be our prayer
Quanta fede c’e
When shadows fill our day
Lead us to a place
Guide us with your grace

Give us faith so we’ll be safe.
Sognamo un mondo senza piu violenza

Un mondo di giustizia e di speranza
Ognuno dia la mano al suo vicino
Simbolo di pace e di fraternita

La forza che ci dai
We ask that life be kind
E’il desiderio che
And watch us from above
Ognuno trovi amore
We hope each soul will find
Intorno e dentro a se
Another soul to love

Let this be our prayer
Let this be our prayer
Just like every child
Just like every child

Needs to find a place,
Guide us with your grace
Give us faith so we’ll be safe
E la fede che
Hai acceso in noi
Sento che ci salvera

LEAD ME LORD because THE WARRIOR IS A CHILD

Posted by ifoundme on March 23, 2008

Today, we take heed and solace to the fact that Jesus Christ died and has risen for us. Isn’t it wonderful to know that our God is an all knowing God and that he is mighty enough to forgive us with our transgressions?

Here are two songs which i listen to often when i want to be humbled especially when i have mixed emotions (happy, sad, vengeful, hate, love, pity, and many more). These songs are sung by Gary Valenciano, a Christian artist who is actively advocating the salvation of Jesus Christ to those who have neglected this fact. You can sing along with the first song Lead Me Lord because the video has lyrics with it.

This second video is entitled The Warrior is a Child. I hope you like these two songs and will take time to reflect.

Lately I’ve been winning battles left and right
But even winners can get wounded in the fight
People say that I’m amazing
I’m strong beyond my years
But they don’t see inside of me
I’m hiding all the tears

Chorus:
They don’t know that I come running home when I fall down
They don’t know who picks me up when no one is around
I drop my sword and cry for just a while
(Look up for His smile)
‘Coz deep inside this armor
The warrior is a child
(Aahhh)

Unafraid because His arrow is the best
But even soldiers need a quiet place to rest
People say that I’m amazing
I never face retreat, oh no
But they don’t see the enemies
That lay me at His feet

Chorus:
They don’t know that I come running home when I fall down
They don’t know who picks me up when no one is around
I drop my sword and cry for just a while
(Look up for His smile)
‘Coz deep inside this armor
The warrior is a child
(Aahhh)

They don’t know that I come running home when I fall down
They don’t know who picks me up when no one is around
I drop my sword and cry for just a while
(Look up for His smile)
‘Coz deep inside this armor
The warrior is a child
(Aahhh)

grandfather’s favorite

Posted by ifoundme on March 21, 2008

while having dinner last night with my family, i told my mother that i want to spend Good Friday just listening to music and do nothing. like every other mothers, she had so many things to say about Holy Week and music… how it was so quiet in their home before and how they were forced to pray and join the processions and her great hesitancy now to bend her knees for idol worship. anyway, she said a handful. (she’s a catholic converted to “protestant”.) on the course of the whole conversation, she mentioned that she remembers lolo (our grandfather) listening endlessly to the songs of Agustin Lara during holy week much to the dismay of our lola (grandmother). i’m fond of music and i really have a wide range of favorites. this may be due to my mother’s influence too. plus, i really want to explore the Spanish side of our family. i may look like a chinese but the spanish influence has been unconsciously great. anyway, here’s another version of Agustin Lara’s song Granada. Others may not like it because it’s too old already but it makes me feel like i’m back in our ancestral house enjoying the smell of the sugarcane surrounding it. I like the carefree feeling back then when all that was allowed for me to do (our grandfather’s strict demand) was to play.

here is one of Agustin Lara’s songs which i found in youtube.

goodbye governor

Posted by ifoundme on March 14, 2008

while everyone else was reacting about the indecency of the governor of new york, our province is mourning the death of our own governor. he is a respected man. nothing much bad can be said about him because he was a working governor and he was a great leader. the whole province will surely miss him.

rest well, governor 319. may the Lord Almighty continue to bless your family. thank you for everything you did to the province and to my family as well.
